5/16/17 Overall

I really loved emerging technology this semester. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and wasn't that excited going into the class. Although, after the very first day of class with Mrs. Peres I knew I was going to really enjoy it and I did. One thing that I loved about this class is the alone time. She gave us an assignment, explained it the first day, and let us work alone from then on out and get stuff done in a quick manner. We may have gotten many assignments, but Mrs. Peres gave us just the right amount of time to complete them. I also really liked the organization of keeping every assignment in my blog and getting to design that. One of my favorite assignments was the website. I love that I got to create my very own website on dance because it means so much to me. My homepage background of my team on a hill is my favorite part of my whole website. I really don't have any suggestions on how to make this class better for the future. I truly did like everything about it.

5/12/17 How to Video

Using PowerPoint Mix went pretty smoothly for me. The only thing that didn't work (for everyone) is the drawing and talking tool together.  I really enjoyed this assignment because it was fun, even though the videos of me talking and doing are a bit rough.  I feel as though Office 365 is so much more interesting than google slides and google drive. Now that I know to use  ppt mix I will use that skill for future presentations.

5/4/17 Website Reflection

I really enjoyed building my own website about something that I love. I found the creating process so much easier than what I thought it was going to be. Now that I know that there is free sources like Weebly and Wix, there is a possibility I could use one or the other in the future. I wanted to use Weebly to challenge myself because I have already used Wix for a photography assignment. Not only did I like creating a website myself, but I also like that I got the time to look at everybody else's sites.

  After looking at ten people's websites in the class, my two favorites are Niki and Sydney's. Niki's site is all about our planet and getting involved to make a change. I loved her website because she made it very educational yet eye opening at the same time with all of the moving pictures. Sydney made her website all about dance and made it more of a blog. I really enjoyed how she included not only tons of great pictures, but also lots and lots of videos of dances which is super fun.

The only time I have created a website was for photography class. I used Wix to make a site of all of the pictures I took. For this assignment I am making a website all about  le dance using Weebly. I chose Weebly because I wanted to try something different.

New car gadgets
I really enjoyed completing current event #5. It was all all about current trending technology. For me, I specifically looked at new car gadgets. I loved learning about new car technology that is for safety and for fun. I am curious to see how buyers respond to these new trends.

Reflection: Overall, I really enjoyed this project. I really like that we got the choice to figure out what app we would like to know more about. Not only did I learn a lot about the app Liketoknow.it, but I also got to know about a lot more other apps that could really help with organization and school.

I have taken school surveys and things like that, but have not created my own type of survey. What I do know is that a survey is meant to get feedback from your peers. 4/3/17 My weekend

My weekend was packed at the maximum. Friday was my only day to hang with my friends. We threw a surprise party for our friend Haley. Luckily, I didn't blow it by saying something to her on accident. On Saturday I had to wake up at 6:00 am to do my hair and get ready for spacing rehearsal. Since competition is in a few weeks, my whole studio went to Olathe South High School to run every single dance on stage. It was the most tiring thing ever, especially because it lasted all day long. The next day was dress rehearsal at the studio. I had to wake up early again to rehearse every dance. This time we had to put on all of our costumes to make sure everything is ready to go for competing. When I got home after dress rehearsal , I crashed immediately.

3/31/17 NCAA reflection

By competing in this class competition, I've learned that it is all a guessing game. Prior to this class, I downloaded the NCAA app and was put into a group of friends and family to compete for the best bracket as well. The only team I really sat down to watch were the Jayhawks and after that I learned that your bracket could be all done for just after a single game. I used Word to make my bracket and Google Sheets to make my spreadsheet.  On word I learned how to put shapes together. I also learned that you can copy, paste, and flip one side that you already completed to the other so that you don't have to make it all again. I hadn't used Google Sheets in forever, so everything we did was kind of new to me.

3/21/17 Spring Break

This spring break I went on our annual Cabo San Lucas trip. My family has gone here for the past five years and have stayed at the same exact resort. We absolutely love it. Although, this year had bit of a twist to it. Now that my oldest sister Lauren has a different spring break as Lindsay and I do, Lindsay somehow got to bring her boyfriend Kyle. I really missed Lauren, but still had an amazing time. For the majority of the time I layed out on the beach because my goal was to get very tan. Not only did I lay out; I swam, banana boated, and went on a boat ride. The boat ride was one of my favorite parts because they anchored the boat and we got to snorkel, kayak, and paddle board. Another big highlight of the trip was taking a water taxi down to Lovers Beach. On the way down they gave us a tour around the famous "Scooby Doo" rock, and we visited some sea lions. Then we got dropped off at Lovers Beach for an hour and got to explore that.

Sydney W: Her infographic is about dance, which I love. In addition, she has a ton of pictures that go along with her stats which makes it 10x more interesting to the viewer.

Lauren S: Lauren's infographic is very organized and neat. The  icons she got from piktochart really tied everything together.

Miranda O: I don't know really anything about softball, so after reading her infographic I learned many facts about softball that I never knew before.

Kenneth: His infographic is very relevant in how it is about the costs of going back to school.The colors pop and he has a ton of statistics and graphics. I like the graph that shows how much of each supply a parent buys.

Carlie: Carlie's infographic is one of my favorites because it is so visually pleasing with the color scheme and visuals. I loved how she started with the  quote "Without music, life would be a mistake".

Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment. To me, making an  infographic is really fun because you get to pick a topic you're interested about, learn about it, and get it out there in a fun and creative way. In addition, Piktochart was very easy to get the hang of. It showed you step by step how to make an infographic and what they should include on them. I like how we got the chance to look at other people's infographics to see what they have been working on, and give positive feedback.

2/23/17 Infographic

An infographic is a creative and visual way to organize information. The main purpose of an infographic is to inform someone in a more understanding way by using all kind of graphics while  eliminating wording. With 90% of information being transmitted to the human brain visually, infographics are much more beneficial than for example, typing out a paper on your topic. Complex information is best put into an infographic. You could be have a very difficult topic to understand, but if you put your information into an infographic then it will turn into something much more easy to understand for not only yourself, but for the reader as well. You can use an infographic to inform, persuade, or compare and contrast. This is why it could be a very useful thing for school. I could see myself making an infographic for a HELA assignment.

2/21/17 Canva Vs. Lucid Press

In my opinion, while I have gotten the chance to try out Canva and Lucid press, Canva was definitely more user friendly. Canva allows the designer to pick from over twenty web and print design types. In addition to that, they offer more than 1 million stock photographs, fonts, and elements. With the amount of options they give to you, one may see it as being overwhelming. Though, canva has a very organized manner. Two things I didn't like about Canva were how some of the cool features costed money, and how it didn't give the user as much flexibility while designing a template. I think that Lucid Press is more for designers with experience, so that is one reason why I didn't like it as much as Canva. When you first look on the site it is just not as fun looking. It gave set templates, but not as many as Canva did. Although, the set templates they provided allowed the user to change whatever they wanted. It allowed you to think outside of the box with creativity. I also like how it easily allowed you to upload your own images through Dropbox with no complications. I think that Canva creates the nicest most trendiest documents. You could type in whatever idea you had in mind, and and something would pop up relating to it. Unfortunately, both Canva and Lucid Presss had really fun features that costed money. All in all, I really enjoyed using Canva more than Lucid Press. It was more user friendly to me and didn't take me as much time to figure out.

2/16/17 My Dream Business

My dream business would be a clothing boutique in New York City. I have always wanted to go to New York because I love to shop, and New York is known as being the place to shop. My boutique would be called Clothing Palette. I chose that name because the store would have the perfect "clothing palette" for each season to come.  The design and color on my business card and flyers would be the two things set for the store.  I would make sure to appeal to the current trends to attract more and more customers.

2/13/17 Happy First Sweetheart

My very first sweetheart dance was this weekend! I can't explain how much I had been looking forwards to this weekend.
 My big sister helped me get ready. She was my life-saver considering I don't love to do my makeup and she helped me out a ton. I got my hair loosely curled and was ready to go. First thing, my date came over and we took some pictures. Then, we headed off to A-Loft where we met the rest of the group. We were nervous that it was going to be packed, but it all worked out perfectly. When pictures were over we went and ate in our own private room at Hereford House. I got steak and it was very yummy. Then it was time for the dance. We went to the high school and jammed on the dance floor. This definitely topped homecoming for me.We ended the night at our friend Sammy's house with the theme of risky business.

Part 1
In this class I currently have all of my assignments turned in. I checked synergy and recieved 5s on all of my daily blog posts. On my current event, I recieved a 10/10 and overall so far I feel like I am doing pretty well in this class and look forward to give my best effort in my future assignments. So far in this semester I have learned a lot about how technology has taken over this generation and about new emerging technologies.

Reading this article gave me a better idea on how technology is currently evolving. The article I choose was all about the new Amazon Prime Air. Amazon wanted to create something unmanned, that could fly, and that could deliver at a pretty fast pace for the customers. The new technological innovation has not gone out for everyone's use yet, because the company is still tweaking things here and there. Even though this is such an amazing concept that Amazon has created, it is still taking away the jobs of actual people and in addition to that, human interaction. I am now curious on if drones are soon going to be this generation's future.

2/9/17 Kids these days

 I hadn't seen my grand kids in forever and today I finally got to see them. They came by surprise and I couldn't have been any any happier to see their faces. With the kids growing up, they don't visit me as much as they used to, but where have the good times gone? I took them to a breakfast place for dinner because that used to be our tradition when they were young. As we are sitting at the table waiting to order, every single person had their head down because they were on their phone. I was too scared to say anything to them though. I looked around to see the pretty much every other kid was on their electronics too. My heart sunk. I am getting older and older and all I want is quality time with my grand kids. A time of putting the phones down for at least one hour to actually enjoy time with loved ones. This generation is crazy. Technology is taking over these kids and there is nothing I can do about it.

2/6/17 collaborating remotely reflection

To be honest, going into this I was really worried about the whole communication through e-mail thing. In addition to that, my partner and I aren't close friends which made it even more tough. We picked the topic of March madness. I will sit down and watch a basketball game, but I am not the best with sports which made it hard to work with someone who knows a lot about the event. I feel bad because usually I can contribute a lot but I feel like since he already knew a lot about the topic he did a lot of the work. I could never imagine conducting business in this way on a daily basis. With this project it taught me how communication is difficult, yet it is key. Also, in the real world you won't get to chose who you work with. Even though this project was stressful for me, It was fun in how I've never been assigned a project like this one before.

1/30/17 Ted Talk Reflection

Yes, I agree with the Ted Talk.  I think that our current technology is an amazing thing, but we have to know our limits. If you live every single day just sitting at home one your phone texting, then what are you really doing with your life? I believe that if you if you truly wanted to have a heart-felt conversation with something then you would pick up the phone and call the person, or at lest have a face to face conversation with them. Everyone is a different person behind a screen. The things someone would say behind their phone may be something they would never say to someone's face. Today, we expect more from technology and less from each other. That is why people struggle to keep a real face to face conversation. I am hoping that in the future, people can come before technology.

1/31/17 Words for Teenagers

I think that this newspaper clipping is well said. It really makes you open your eyes and realize what our society is today. John Tapene talked about how teenagers are constantly complaining of there being nothing to do. Most teenagers would just sit around at home on their electronics, but if they got up and got out, they could make some sort of difference. Not only for themselves, but for the world. People these days say we need this and that, but why keep asking when you could get out and actually do?

CURRENT EVENT


After reading an article on how technology may hold the future of fashion, it gave me a much better understanding of social bookmarking and why there is such a thing. The article helped me to realize that not just teachers and students at school us this method. Big business of all sorts use social book marking to reach out to buyers and appeal to their desires. In my opinion, social bookmarking is a helpful and beneficial tool for anyone and everyone. Two new social bookmarking sites I learned about are EDITED and Snap Fashion. EDITED is a trend forecasting company that tracks which products sell and when. Snap Fashion takes pride in what people today are truly looking for and connects them with products for them. This is an app I would like to try out.

1/26/17 Reflection on Chrome and Symbaloo

Recently, I was taught what social bookmarking is and why we do it in my emerging technology class. Social bookmarking helped me to realize how organized I really can be while using the computer, and it overall makes everything easier for yourself. We started with social bookmarking on Google Chrome. It is super efficient because you can make folders of many sites and organize it by your personal preference. The next social bookmarking tool we used was a site called symbaloo. Both
Google Chrome and Symbaloo have the same idea of organizing your favorite sites, but I enjoyed using symbaloo more. Symbaloo allows you to design your own webmixes and design each tile as you wish. It's definitely a more creative way to organize your favorite sites. I would say that Google Chrome would be best used for when you only have one or two favorite sites you need for looking back on.

1/24/17 Introduction to Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a tool used to keep your most important or favorite web pages organized. Users save links to web pages that they like or want to share, using a  social bookmarking site to store those links. A few of the social bookmarking tools I use include Pinterest, and Google Chrome. Pinterest is one of my favorite apps because it is an app that allows you to look at what you are interested in and save those things for later use. I use google chrome at school frequently. I would recommend google chrome the most for people. It is a basic way to keep organized by making folders with your favorite sites saved inside of them.

1/17/17 PREZI reflection

While comparing Power Point and Prezi, I would say that Power Point is easier to use because it is more straight forward. Although,  Prezi can create more effective and interesting presentations. It gives you a wide range of tools to make your presentation your own. I think that Power Point would be better used for an assignment where you are given many guidelines, and Prezi for when you have more freedom. For the next presentation I am given I would choose Prezi over Power Point.
